Email Deliverability - Features
SMTP2Go Corporate takes many measures to proactively ensure that emails sent through our service reach their intended recipients. Due to the vast amount of spam that is sent on the Internet, many Internet service providers have implemented filters that attempt to block emails that might be spam from reaching their customers. Below are listed some of the ways that SMTP2Go Corporate actively works to ensure that legitimate emails sent through us do not get blocked.
Hotmail/AOL/Comcast Feedback Loops
We maintain positive relationships with these email providers, and take immediate action if any abuse is reported that has originated from our IP addresses. This ensures our IP addresses remain off the internal blacklists of major email providers.
Yahoo/Gmail
Emails that are sent to Yahoo and Gmail benefit from being signed with a DKIM signature. DKIM (DomainKeys Identified Mail) is a method for authenticating the identity of the sender (or intermediate agent) of an email. SMTP2Go Corporate signs every email with a DKIM signature, which ensure that recipient mail servers that use DKIM can be sure that we are the actual mail server that the email has come from. DKIM also allows us to participate in the Yahoo Complaint Feedback Loop.
Blacklist Monitoring
We monitor all major external blacklists (otherwise known as Realtime blacklists, DNSBLs or RBLs) every 15 minutes, and take immediate action if we are ever affected.
SPF (Sender Policy Framework) Records
SPF allows you to specify exactly which mail servers are allowed to send emails on behalf of your domain name. For example, if your domain name is example.com, you can change the SPF record for that domain name so that it specifies that SMTP2Go is allowed to send emails where the sender email address ends in @example.com. SPF is not essential to implement, however it can be useful for improving email deliverability rates. You should certainly check to see if your domain name currently has an SPF record - if it does, then SMTP2Go should be added to it. Our guide, Improving Deliverability, explains SPF in more detail.
Recommended Mailing List Software
When sending a similar email to over 50 recipients, we recommend using specific mailing list software. SMTP, as a protocol, was never designed to send individual emails to hundreds of recipients. Instead of sending one email to hundreds of recipients, mailing list software sends hundreds of emails, each to only one recipient. The software that we have tested, and can strongly recommend, is mentioned in our Mailing List Software guide.
Reverse DNS/PTR Record
As every properly configured SMTP server must have, SMTP2Go has a valid Reverse DNS record in place (otherwise known as a PTR record).
24/7 Monitoring
Multiple checks are performed every 5 minutes on our servers by the external monitoring service Pingdom, and we are alerted if an issue ever arises. The external nature of these checks ensures that our services are verified as working as checked by a true third party.
